Are You Making the #1 Mistake on Instagram that is Keeping Your Studio from Growing?

As we celebrate National Social Media Day, I want to make sure you are utilizing each platform in the most effective way for your dance studio. As we prepare to resume classes, it is essential to have a strong online presence with clear and concise information.

In this post, I want to specifically focus on Instagram because it is one of the most used social media platforms in the world, especially in the dance community!

One of the biggest mistakes most studios make on Instagram is not having a clear bio. This may seem insignificant but without the right information, your profile can ultimately cost you new business or even cause you to lose your current clients!

Here are the top 3 mistakes that happen

when creating an Instagram bio:

1) Writing without a target audience in mind

One thing you should never do when constructing your bio is write without thinking about your target audience.

Your bio should be in congruence with your target audience’s expectations when they click on your account!

Many people on instagram will visit your profile because they have a specific interest in either the products,  services, or content that you provide.

Make sure it matches their expectations.

2) Over-optimizing keywords

You should most definitely include keywords that describe your brand.

That being said, you should not add ALL the keywords and overdo it because it could actually have a negative effect on your performance. Using too many keywords can overcrowd your bio and turn people away from your page.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is an essential part of any marketing strategy and utilizing keywords is extremely helpful in directing people to your Instagram page, BUT make sure you always keep your bio simple, clear, and concise!

3) Forgetting the purpose of your bio

It is easy to get caught up in all the details and technicalities when creating your Instagram bio, especially when you feel overwhelmed with information. However, do not forget the purpose of your bio!

It is supposed to be a place for you to present yourself and your dance studio in the most intriguing, professional, and captivating way.

The goal is to capture your audience’s attention when they read your bio and create a genuine interest within them. This will generate more followers and future clients!

Now that we have covered what not to do, let’s talk about a couple things

you can do to create a “WOW factor” in your bio.

Use Linktree in your bio to direct leads to any website!

Using Linktree is a must for any dance studio owner who is active on social media! It is simple, convenient, and affordable.

On Instagram, you can only link ONE webpage to your bio, which means you need to either change the link every time you want to share a new piece of content with your followers, or you need to use a tool that allows you to have multiple links on one webpage.

Enter Linktree, the tool that helps you create a micro webpage where you can put all the links you want to share.

Adding Linktree to your bio is a free and effective strategy to increase your followers and clients by driving more targeted traffic through your Instagram page.

If you haven’t tried it out yet, I highly encourage you to do so right now!

Here is how to create a Linktree account:

  1. Go to https://linktr.ee/ and sign up with your Instagram account.
  2. Add as many links as you need by clicking on + ADD NEW BUTTON/LINK. Once you have done that, you just need to copy and paste the desired URL link. Don’t forget to use eye-catching titles for all of your links!
  3. Copy your custom Linktree link and paste it into the website section of your Instagram profile.

Use the location tag to get local attention and business!

The location tag is a very effective but overlooked tool in attracting more followers to your Instagram page. When designing your bio, make sure you include your location, hours, phone, email, website link (see above), and promotions!

A pro tip is to do this for all of your social media platforms, not just Instagram. This will get you some brownie points with your followers because it keeps things clean, consistent, and easy to read. It is a win for them and a win for you!

Make sure you tag the location of your dance studio in all of your Instagram posts and stories. Doing this simple step will direct even more people to your page and your studio which means more business for you!
